CPIC is now entering its last year of the study referred to as the “Dissemination Phase”. The study’s community partners, investigators, and staff are currently working on cleaning up and analyzing all of the data collected from participating agency administrators & providers as well as the clients that were screened & surveyed for depression in the communities of South LA and Hollywood/Metro LA. Overall, 95 programs representing 50 agencies participated in the CPIC study!
The Feedback Conference “Hope for Beating Depression in Our Communities” held on November 4, 2011 at the Magnolia Place Conference Center was a great success! Partners from both intervention arms (CEP & RS) reconvened to learn about the study’s progress and had the opportunity to look at preliminary data and findings. Community and academic partners jointly presented the data and engaged attendees in sharing their reactions to the data they received. Everyone who came to the feedback conference had the opportunity to submit their ideas and suggestions for the dissemination phase. Together with our community partners, the CPIC study is planning for how best to disseminate the study final outcomes in the upcoming year.
The first dissemination activity will be a workshop called “Promoting Wellness: Beating Depression in Our Community” to be held on Friday, May 11, 2012 at Holman United Methodist Church. The workshop aims to: provide a demonstration of the National Library of Medicine website and resources developed in collaboration with Charles R. Drew University of Medicine & Science, Harbor-UCLA/Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute, Healthy African American Families II, and the UCLA Center for Health Services & Society, to gather feedback from guests on the usefulness of the resources, to carry out a wellness exercise “depression care drill” in real time so that providers can practice using the resources, and to provide a forum for community agencies and policy stakeholders to network and discuss the issue of depression and the available community resources for dealing with it.
